Yes, it’s October and Boston College has already played both of its fall scrimmages. Of course, it’s also the MLB postseason and the fall semester is in full swing. It’s been a busy few months, but I’d be remiss to not take a look back at the summer months—of which a host of Eagles’ spent in small towns with host families throughout the country.
Summer collegiate baseball has always been a joy to watch and follow, and this year was no different. Watching players from all over the country match up in leagues like the Cape, NECBL, FCBL, and Appalachian League is always fascinating and brings a plethora of scouts and other coverage.
For those interested, here’s how players on BC’s 2022 roster fared this summer (grouped by class). These largely exclude any late-season appearances in new leagues and are based on a preseason list provided by BC. These statistics are also for the league’s respective regular seasons.
Seniors
Notes: Smith won the NECBL championship with the Westerners as they dispatched the North Shore Navigators in two games … Burns appeared in the Cape Cod championship series against the Brewster Whitecaps, going 2-for-3 in the summer-ending loss.
Juniors
Notes: Walsh started the NECBL All-Star Game for the South Division and additionally earned All-South Team honors at the end of the season … Gold was named to the West Division All-Star Team.
Sophomores
Notes: Honeyman started the All-Star Game for the South, was named the 2021 Rick Ligi Most Valuable Player, set a league record for batting average, and was Rookie of the Year… Vetrano was an All-Star selection in the Appy League, as was Leary but they were in different divisions … Roche was an All-Star selection in the Futures’ League, as was Crowley in the East Division.
Incoming Freshman
Notes: McNulty impressed in his first collegiate action, earning All-FCBL First Team honors.
